Insights / Field Notes
When you need a RED camera and when you do not.
Camera choice should follow the final use, the lighting plan, and the finish. Not ego.
A RED body matters when the project needs heavy grade latitude, controlled skin tone, VFX support, high-end finishing, or a delivery path where image integrity has to survive multiple versions.
When it is worth it.
Use the stronger camera package when the image will be pushed in post, projected, cut into a hero campaign, finished in HDR, or repurposed across paid and owned placements for months.
When it is not.
If the project is a fast social capture, an internal piece, or a simple information asset, the right answer may be a lighter camera, better sound, stronger art direction, or more time with the talent.
